The Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is a set of COM APIs that implements a framework to allow volume backups to be performed while applications on a system continue to write to the volumes.

If this service is not running on your machine, C-Cloud will fail to back up your opened and locked files. To check this service status:

Go to the Start menu on your machine.

In the Search\Run filed type: services.msc and hit enter.

Look for the Volume Shadow Copy Service, right click on it and select Properties. From the General tab, make sure that the Service startup type is set to Automatic and then start the service.

Repeat the step 3 for the service Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider.

And also check the Windows Event Viewer for any recent errors related to this service. Here is how you can do that:
From Start menu → Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Double-click Event Viewer→ From the left panel of the Event Viewer, select Windows Logs then Application → Use the event ID and the error message to search for a suitable fix for it.

Each time C-Cloud runs; new, modified, and changed files will be added to the backup. Small files will be taken as a whole file, for faster restoration. However, large modified files can be backed up using C-Cloud’s Block Level Technology. This technology is ideal for large files that undergo slight changes like databases, Outlook email files (PST) and so on. In this type of backup only changes within the file will be backed up and not the entire file, saving more space and time.

To add more file extensions to the list of the files you wish C-Cloud to back them up using the Block Level technology, please apply the following:

C-Cloud has introduced a De-Duplication feature. This feature will work between your machines and the C-Cloud servers in order to locate the duplicate files.

So, when:

You move your files to a new machine

Reinstall Windows on your machine

Back up the same file from two machine or more

Back up the same file that is stored in two locations or more

When you start a complete new backup on your current one, and configure C-Cloud to back up the same files

When you want to move the same data from an old drive to a new one.

C-Cloud will be able to see that you’ve previously backed up the same files. According to this, C-Cloud will scan the files again but will not actually upload any of them from your side, saving your bandwidth.

On the server side, those duplicate files will be copied under the new location so you can find and restore them from any location you prefer.
